Post by sky1haze » Fri Sep 10, 2010 10:30 pm

Hi all....1966 Dream here. Just got it. 5,361 miles...Garage find.
It has its kinks....One in particular is that it just started reving on me. The throttle has no effect on it. eventually it goes back to normal..... .anyone have advice?
You are all great on these forums!

Electrical probs. too I'll ask about later,

Sounds like a stuck throttle, throttle cable, or carburetor slide-easy to check, with the engine not running, pull the air cleaner and look/feel for the carburetor slide to move easily up and down in sync with the throttle. Old gas gets gummy and can make the slide sticky, and old cables need to be lubed to work again- and make sure the cable isn't kinked or poorly routed causing a sharp turn in the cable.

Great advice....I just had the carb cleaned last week with a new cable. I am going to take your advice and pull off the air filter to feel whats going on! Thanks!

if it's just doing it on it's own... i.e. sitting there idling and then revs up and slowly drops back.. then it could be a vacuum leak. Check the o-rings and seals, check to make sure the insulator between carb and head isn't flipped around (mine was.. and it was revving up and wouldn't idle).
