Post by kevinral » Sun Oct 10, 2010 2:39 pm

Can anyone help me with removing the carb slide and pin from the top of the carburetor ('63 honda ca77)?

Unscrew the top and the slide, spring, and pin(needle) will slide out.
Compress the spring till you get enough slack in the cable to unseat it and slide it out of the groove in the slide.
Go look for the spring after it flies out across the garage.

float pin removal

Thanks for the info about the slide. I got it and managed to not lose a spring. How do I go about removing the ping that holds the floats to the upper part of the carb?

It should push right out, but sometimes they are stuck. A very small punch, and an even smaller hammer should do the trick. Careful, the post can and will break off if you hit it too hard.

float pin removal

This thing is so gummed up! The entire lower bowl is covered in salts and the float itself is actually black. Does this pin come out in one direction (as shown on the parts fiche)?

It should come out either way unless there is a punch mark around one of the holes.

I've had good results by dunking carbs in vinegar and letting them sit a while.

You can mix 50/50 or stronger with hot water and leave 24 hrs or more if you want.

Good idea to soak it as Brewsky suggested since it is so corroded in there. In extreme cases I have used a small dremmel cut off wheel, and cut the pin between the float and the arms. It's easier to support the arms that way if you have to knock the pin out.
