adjustment of the shifter arm??

Post by rrtccp » Sat Nov 20, 2010 5:59 pm

Can any of the experts ( LM and DAVO , yes this means you ) please suggest any reasonable way to adjust the double threaded rod that connects the foot shifter peg to the actual shifter coming out of the tranny, until now i have just kind of played it back and forth until the foot peg was at a decent height and then tightened both end lock nuts down and hoped for the best,, there must be a more correct method, there seems to be some slop in the foot shifter peg, and i have tried to put a flexible thin plastic washer between the foot peg stub and the foot rest stub and this really tightened up the shifter great , but too much so that the shifter was so tight that it would barely move, so back to square one,, sloppy foot shifter peg... oh well , it beats watching t.v...... have a good day .. folks

Mine is sloppy as well. I was thinking the inner diameter is just worn from being used. Might drill it out and put a bushing in. Anybody have other solutions?

The indexing finger on the shift shaft should be at close to the 11 o'clock position. For easiest shifting, the shifter rod should be at 90 degrees to the finger.

New shift lever, and new mounting bolt new rod ends and pins is the easiest way to get rid of the play. The rod is used to adjust shift lever height in relation to the footpeg. Some like it higher, some low. All of the parts get worn and have play in them, but generally the bikes shift well enough despite the play. One must shift like you mean it, these aren't modern bikes that will "snick" from gear to gear.
