New member / potential dream 305 rebuild

Yep, the black bike muffler is stainless steel (i think), it is magnetic.
It is missing the most components, however I have a funny feeling that it is the one I want to rebuild. Actually I just noticed that it is missing one pipe! :x

The blue one has standard dream winkers (rear).
The black one has no winker glass, so hard to tell at the moment.

Not to disrespect or contradict anyone, but I've been told by an expert that my left muffler is stainless; it's got absolutely no rust, in contrast to the right one. A magnet sticks to both mufflers about the same. The welded-on bracket on the left one does show some rust, but not the body of the muffler. Just for what it's worth. --Lee

That could be the fact, but are you not feeling a slight difference in magnetic force ?
Stainless as phrased for Honda is indeed magnetic, but significant lower than the steel mufflers.

I have many stainless and steel mufflers for CB72's and dreams, and there is a significant difference in force to a magnet.

Are you sure that the "rusted" muffler isn't in fact a stainless one, but with stains on them ?
Look at the pictures very good, you will see stains, not rust.

There certainly could be a slight difference in magnetic force, but both feel fairly strong. The right muffler had a good bit of rust on the inside rear near the sprocket. I treated rust there with "neutralizer" (phosphoric acid?) and painted with same extra-high-heat silver I used on the exhaust pipes. Both muffs had typical cracks at the brackets that had to be brazed. All holding together so far. I remember replacing at least one of the mufflers back in the 60's when it rusted through and fell apart/off back back of the bracket.
