The advantage of the paste is that it sticks to the surface and provides a uniform coverage.
Of course it would be possible to completely dunk the carb in coke...not as easy for a table top.

After reading the contents of tomato paste, I counted around 20+ different acids!....almost afraid to eat it now!...might just stick with the brew

Dunking was my thought, too, Brew.

We used to flick blobs of Hg at each other (in the '60s) in chemistry lessons, just to watch it scatter; and then gather it up and start all over again. Chroist! Wouldn't be able to do that nowadays for fear of getting arrested!

A few examples of classic statistics :

Smoking is healthy, my grandfather who is 90 years old, always smoked 5 cigarettes a day.
Ambulances are dangerous cars, researchers found out that the death rate is above average.
Motorcycle riding isn't more dangerous then car driving, one of my best friends died in a car crash.
