Can someone please help me? I have a 66 Scrambler 305 that I bought and am slowly, emphasis on slowly, restoring. I am in the process of getting parts to replace some things that are in bad bad shape. Anyway, the tank that was on this bike when I bought it was seamless. I have access to a tank that has a seam down it---I could have swore that the 66's did not have a seam but this gentleman is telling me that his tank is a 66. Is that right? Also, what is a tank worth that has the badge, the rubbers, is painted very nicely, and is in phenomenal shape? Also, is it worth trying to fix up a tank that is pretty dented up? What is it worth if sold---little or nothing?
Thanks in advance.
Jeff

66 tank
Jeff, 66's were indeed seamed, mine is and it's original. As far as the value on the tank, it's whatever you two can agree on.If the seller is E-bay savvy watch out(go look on there now) A couple of hundred bucks for a real nice tank would be fair, a phenomenal tank, even more. If your tank isn't too rusty it's worth saving and fixing. How bout some pictures? Welcome to the forum and good luck...................D

Thanks
Hey, been on here before but been awhile but thanks for the welcome. I am really surprised those are seamed---I had a 66 a couple of years ago that was NOT seamed. The tank for sale is phenomenal--already painted with really nice badges, petcock, and knee pads.
to seem or not to seem
My 66 CL77 has a seemless tank on it. My parts manual says the seemless tanks ended at frame number 1043097.

Tank seam
Well, My 66, frame No# 1034582, titled as a 67 has a seam. I can personally trace it's history back to 1973 and I don't believe it was abused enough prior to my ownership to require a tank replacement. But I've been wrong before. I guess unless you actually bought it new you wouldn't know for sure. Ed?.........D
