X-gear feedback

Post by Dana01 » Thu Feb 10, 2011 11:05 pm

Hiya,

I'm soliciting feedback on how daily and highway riding are from someone who has X'd their gears before I swap 'em.

x-ing

Post by rustywrench » Fri Feb 11, 2011 1:16 am

I ride my cl geared for the hi way more or less. X-ing gives you a much easier gear change through all the gears. A cl I sold last summer did not have it done and I really noticed the difference. Stock, it had a huge drop to 2ND. and 3rd to 4Th was minimal and not much rpm change. X and you get a more evenly spaced rpm change through all the gears. That's my 2 cents, FWIW,,,,,,,,,Rusty

IMHO X-ing is the only way to go. I had one CB77 that wasn't X'd, and it was not nearly as easy to ride. There is a really large gap between first and second. If you rev it pretty high in first, then it's O.K. If you try to short shift, fahgetaboudit!

All done. Fast Fred just left. We put it all back together, put the cases back temporarily and checked the shift clearances. Dogs are happy :)

Thanks Fred!

hey all i'm just a little confused as to what i should do here. i drew a diagram on the picture provided here, as a question of which ways the gears should go when "crossing" them. the picture here shows them already crossed but does what i drew make sense ?

thanx
