Progress report after X-ing the trans. resto is a front-to-back progression (cuz I'm a linear thinker).

- You can see the crud on the back parts I haven't touched. And yes, I spray frame bits as they're cleaned and uncovered. headlight ears were mangled and cracked. I hammered out as best as I could (I dont do a lot of metal fab work) and brazed the cracks.

- Speedo cushion is neoprene strip cut to size from sheet. Bar bolts are stainless, button-heads. I'm polishing them to a mirror finish (I like shiny). Couldn't resist the red plug wires :) Blue tape are "to do's"

- fenders, trans bottom, shock lowers are all Duplo hi-temp silver engine spray paint.

thanks for the update pics. looking really slick. I'm writing out a fancy to do list for my resto on graph paper right now. drew out the superhawk so I wouldn't forget to list any component that needed work etc... i'm excited for this april (when i can fund all of this... yay for moving up in the career)

I think i've too many bike projects on my hands right now to tackle my super hawk engine right now. I may just contact ed or davo and see if they've got one for sale, and then slowly work on my original engine as a cafe project... haven't done it yet cuz everything is still up in the air.

Update 3/15/11
frame painted, front end mostly done, motor mostly done. Swing arm, center stand on. Working on harness.

- ready to clean and re-sheath the harness as well as check all connectors

- tank done ... need some stinkin' badges. those are reflections not scratches

- motor right side ... because I CAN use salmon colored shrink tubing!

- motor left side. I took a chance not getting into the head and cylinders because it turned over nicely. I'll check compression later. That's why the rest of motor is painted and cylinders are "au-naturale"

It's been a while, but now I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
I never went into the top or cylinders, so those case parts are still grungy ... next go-round (or if this one fails).
I posted my version of the bridge rectifier mod elsewhere.
