X-gear feedback
Hi,
Indeed, I X-ed the gears, but after a while I de-X-ed again. The standard ratio's are better for me, but not satisfactory. I'm thinking Nova 5 speed, but still not sure. I'll wait for the responses from Vince to see if it's a good "investment". Next to that' I'll miss my kick starter too. Jensen assembly of Japanese motorcycles requires great peace of mind (Pirsig)
Hi Vince,
I mind losing the kick start more then losing money on something good, if it is. But when it's worth to loose the kick start, I'll go for it. Could you calculate the rpm versus speed and shifting moment as I did for my CB450 K0 (CB450 K0 dynojet and why it doesn't need a five speed trans). So far it seems excellent, though of course I've only ridden the bike on two separate occasions during the road testing. 'Casual' shifting that I seem to be doing in the NOVA transmission would likely be a mis-shift or a false neutral in my 'old' four-speed transmission. Of course, time will tell whether the 5th gear actually improves the riding experience, and truthfully I don't know how it compares to x-ing the gears, as I didn't have John (mechanic) do that on my four-speed. One thing about losing the kickstart that might be considered an advantage is that you don't have to worry about the kickstart shaft/bushing wear (that I had happen twice) that causes the kickstart lever to move on its own.
As far as the speed/shifting points go, I'm going to have to get back to you on that as I ride the bike more! I'll post that info on another thread -- I'll try not to steer this thread into an unintended direction!
