thanks for the advice Steve, I'll have a look when I get around to sorting out the electrics. There is currently no spark and a few odd things happening when switches get turned on but I've just wheeled it over to one side of my shed and will work on it this winter to get it ready for spring. It's been a solid year of ground up work taking up all my spare time (wish I was retired) and I'm a little burned out so I need to step back for a while. Sure looks good though. Thanks again for the advice and thanks for all the help I've received from forum members, youv'e made the job a lot easier. I'll keep you updated.

I have to say (and I meant to include in my previous post!) it really does look gorgeous, so far. Really good work there!

Maybe someone can give me their 2 cents worth on this one. In order to move the points backing plate to a place where the timing is correct acording to Ed's tunup I had to enlarge (make longer) the slots in the plate by about 2mm. When installing the cam chain ...pointer on "T" the line on the cam points down. Well it points down allright as you can see in photo but it just points straight down and I'm wondering if it should point directly at the center of the crank. If I put a straightedge on the line it's not out by much when it gets to the crank. It almost seems like I might have been out a tooth when I put the chain on. I'm just beginning to sort out carb setting etc. but it seems to start right up and run fine. Should I just ignore all this? Thanks alot for all your help along the way, I'm on the final strech now with completing this project, I'll keep you up to date.

Not sure if you figured this out, but check out this thread on cam chain installation. When the crank with the right piston is at TDC, the points cam will be at 12 noon.
