1960 Dream

Post by G-Man » Sat Apr 02, 2011 3:35 am

Hi Guys

I have just acquired this early 1960 Dream, which judging by comments made by Paul Strassmaier on frame numbering, might be a Japanese domestic model. The paint is original but looks to be a plum color rather than the orangey-red of later Dreams. The bike still has the original dealer sticker on the headlamp.

The paint color shows up better on the outdoors picture but it is still has a high gloss after 51 years and appears to have a slight metallic look.

Numbers are :

Engine C72E 025991
Frame C72-60-25966

Any thoughts?

VERY cool bike, Graham. When you have a chance to check... is it 6 volt or 12 volt?

Bill

Unfortunately all (and I mean all) of the electrical parts have been robbed so I cannot tell you about voltage unless there are some other clues.

Jensen

Unfortunately the muffler is (was) a NOS chrome part but it needs re-chroming already! I do have a small collection of stainless Dream mufflers so I am hoping to fit this one out with stainless.

Do you have any information on the paint colours for these early bikes? The paint seems quite glossy and looks to be purple / pink rather than the red of later 'bikes.

Graham,

I did a 1959 JDM C100 for a couple several years back that was the color you're describing. However, in your pics your bike looks quite a bit redder than the C100 did. Great story behind the C100. The lady's father was a professor, teaching in Japan, in the late 50s early 60s. This bike had a steel framed childs seat in front of the riders seat that she rode in as a child. I wish that I had taken pics of that one!

Interesting... The photos make the color look redder than it is. Did you re-paint the C100? I'm interested to know if there any paint codes available.
