New mufflers mean now I can here a terrible ticking sound!!!
New mufflers mean now I can here a terrible ticking sound!!!I ran the bike for a few minutes after installing new mufflers and there's a very loud tick that seems to hit every revolution of the crank. It sounds like valve chain noise. I've done the proper procedures for adjusting the valves and the tension on the cam chain. I'm thinking maybe the chain for the starter? It seems to have the same tone as when the kickstarter is recoiling. How would I diagnose that? Is that something to worry about? It's hard to believe that anything is worn out since the bike only has 5,000 on it.
Re: New mufflers mean now I can here a terrible ticking sounRemove the screws on the KS cover.
Start the engine then remove the cover and LOOK. .........lm
Re: New mufflers mean now I can here a terrible ticking sounI guess I'd prefer to know whether it's even possible for this mechanism to make the noise I described. For example, I mentioned the starter chain, but in reading up on it I found out that the starter motor chain only runs when the starter is engaged, so it can't be the problem unless the starter clutch is seized and I don' t even know if it can seize. Is there a mechanism attached to the kickstart that can cause a ticking while the engine is running? Really, I was hoping someone had experienced something similar and could point me in the right direction (and away from the wrong one).
Re: New mufflers mean now I can here a terrible ticking sounDid ya turn the KS clockwise to STOP before ya installed the KS Cover?. ........lm
