Thanks for the clarification G-man.
I'm still amazed at how much there is to learn about these bikes.

hmmm
Well... the reason I asked was because I have some original mufflers from my 1963 Dream, and one of them has dings, and a few dents that we thought might "pop" out with a little heat and pressure IF THEY WERE STAINLESS. However, if they are chrome, then the heat will ruin the finish on the mufflers, however, dented pipes don't do me much good on a completely restored Dream either.
dream mufflers
Maybe lm can get out his book and tell you whether it's stainless or iron.

Re: dream mufflers
Ya can tell the difference just by looking.
The patina and if ya see (ya should be able to) rust it's steel.
Take a look it's easy.
BTW the stainless ones weren't used very long as they were fragile at the top mount of the LS and would split in half (CB72/77) if someone put their foot on it to get on the seat. (yep they sure did!) .................lm

mufflers
From what i read in old partslists the stainless dream (don't know about the CB's) mufflers were an option in the early 60's.
The early wet sump bikes i have seen over here all seem to have the mufflers missing or have stainless ones, maybe the ones without the mufflers had them in chrome...

Re: mufflers
I think they were a replacement for a period rather than an option.
The parts book here shows frame numbers so that's why I think this. ..........lm
