Yet another newbie ?

Post by Eck » Wed Jun 08, 2011 8:48 am

I have a 66 305, am having trouble with the carb, I had a bad float so I replaced that, cleaned up the carb, made sure all passages were clear and set the float height to 26.5 mm (measured from gasket surface). It still seems to be flooding, popping from exhaust, dying and sometimes gas comes out of the overflow. I am a little confused on the two screws, I have the first screw (one closest to the engine) turned 1 1/2 turns out, the other I'm not sure how to intitially set it. As it is screwed out should the idle go up. Compression is good, the battery keeps crapping out, but I think that is from over use of the starter?

Also can someone point me to where I can get a maintenance manual for my dream? Is there one specifically for the Dream?

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum. The idle mixture screw (closest to the engine) should be turned out 1 1/4 turns from bottom. The other adjusts idle speed by adjusting where the throttle slide closes when at idle. Screw it in and idle speed increases, out to slow it down. I think you can get a manual on e-bay or even this website maybe?

Good luck,
Jethro

Get the Bill Silver Restoration CD for Dreams. You will thank yourself. Parts manuals, shop manuals, maintenance info and lots of pictures and historical info. As you have found, this forum is a grea resource as well.
