Testing my STARTER SOLENOID

Post by murray-eliminator » Mon Jun 13, 2011 12:28 pm

Is there a test i can do to determin if my Starter solenoid is working? I have to jump the posts to get my starter to turn over. and am trying to track down the problem with the start button not working. all the wires seem to be fine.

Make sure the black wire is getting constant power, and the yellow wire makes a good ground. When you push the starter button, it grounds that yellow wire. Usually the problem is in the bar switch.

You should be able to put the yellow and black wires across your batter and hear it click to make sure the winding is working. You can take the solenoid apart for added TLC as needed, too.
