Update to Dream

Post by kenkah » Sat Jun 18, 2011 6:59 pm

Ok so I started tinkering around with the dream today and so far so good. I'm planning on locating some parts over the next week or so.

I'm having a little trouble understanding where the fuel line run. I see there are 2 petcocks on the bottom of the fuel tank and I know that the fuel line start here just wondering where the lines run from there. Also, there 2 petcocks on the engine not sure what hooks up here.

I did order new plugs, and realized I need a an Air cleaner. other then that I think she will be good to go once I can get the fuel lines taken care of.

In the attached picture my thumb is pointing toward the petcock on the gas tank. My index finger is pointing to a petcock on the motor. What do the petcocks on both side of the motor run to?

I can't quite make out what is going on there but it looks like someone has welded in a seperate line from the tank because they didn't want to fix the factory petcock.

There are rebuild kits available for them. If I'm looking at that right.......I'd take the tank off, lop off the added piece, fill it and do away with anything extra after getting the factory petcock working right.

What should the bottom of the tank look like? Any pics?

Ok, I realized I'm calling the nipples on both side of the tank the petcock. I just found out I was calling them the wrong thing. So Bascally im wondering where the fuel lines coming from the nipple on the gas tank run to?

Looking closer......... I have the old style tank.....looking closer I think someone took the lines that just connect both sides to each other and added a petcock to them as opposed to fixing the factory one.

Mine have the nipples toward the front of the tank (old style tank). All they do is connect the two sides. Someone with a new tank would have to confirm that the new tank simply does the same just in another area.

If so, you would just run a line between them and fix the factory petcock. Wait for a more education answer though...LOL

Nipples

Post by conbs » Sat Jun 18, 2011 10:24 pm

The two nipples on the bottom of the tank are for the crossover hose so you don't get gas stuck in one side of the tank while the other side is empty. Just hook them together with a hose. Looks like the outlet of your petcock is hooked to your carb like it is supposed to be.

When you get the crossover hose hooked up put a little gas in to make sure your petcock is not leaking. You shouldn't need too much gas in the tank to try and start it up. If you end up with a problem, it will be that much less gas to deal with.

The two nipples coming out of the back of the head are for venting the crankcase. A hose on each side goes into the air cleaner.

Bad petcock

Post by kenkah » Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:51 pm

Ok ran the hose for the cross tank nipples. Put gas in the tank and the petcock is leaking. looks like its leaking from the OFF, RES, ON switch. i am better off buying a new one? or is it better to do a rebuild?

Also was wondering where you guys go for parts besides ebay?
