Newbie update - It lives

Post by kenkah » Sat Jul 16, 2011 12:08 am

Hey guys I adjusted the carb put it all back together and it lives. Still gotta bunch of stuff to do to it yet. but she does run. Did notice that I had to hold the hand grip just right to keep it at idle. Would there be an adjustment for this or do I need a new throttle grip? I'm so excited to get the bike running.

I think I need to go through the wiring because the only key position it would start in is in the third spot where my light comes on. Plus i have no headlight or neutral switch right now so I gotta see whats up with that. But I was more concerned about seeing if it ran first before the other details.

Turned out the gasket in the carburetor was preventing the float from going into the proper position. but it was a good thing because my float wasn't set at the right height either.

Gonna change the oil out tomorrow. What type of oil and weight do you guys run in these?

Thanks to Loud Mouse, G-man, and everyone else for the help. I'm almost certain I'll be asking for more help in the future.

congrats on getting it running. I know how that feels. I have a CA95 that I bought and it needed some adjustments to get it running. I remember that late night when we actually got it running. I was so excited I ran that baby up and down the street and then my hubby and kids all took turns too. I can't stand waiting for my 63 Dream to be started. Im on the tail end of the resto and it is getting really hard to be patient. Especially when the weather is gorgeous. Again congrats! Enjoy it!

There are 2 screws in the left side of the carb. The one toward the rear (air cleaner side) adjusts the stop for the slide. Turn it in till you get the idle speed you need. Then adjust the cable slack, leaving a little so the engine does not speed up as you turn the bars extreme left or right.
