Kickstart Gear Removal (Pics)

Post by MotoX109 » Thu Aug 04, 2011 12:23 pm

I attached a couple photos pointing to the frozen kickstart pinion gear. I took off the circlip on the front, but I'm unsure how to remove. It seems that the front side has a flange that is too big to slide through the case. Does the front piece and the gear separate? It looks as though it might screw together?

Thanks!

Bobby,

Click this link for reference http://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/ ... 9_c593.gif

You can access the CMS website for more sections of the parts diagrams. That gear is one piece. I would remove the kick start gear first after popping the set ring. Then remove the bolt that anchors the spring. I use a propane torch to lightly heat the alloy cover around the gear shaft to expand the holes if either gear is stuck. That should do it.

Good luck- HT

Be careful with any propane heat as there is a phenolic/plastic bushing at the other gear. .........lm
