1966 305 CA77E Shifting issues
1966 305 CA77E Shifting issuesHello All-
I have shifting issues with my 1966 CA77 305 Dream. It doesn't shift smoothly and often gets "stuck" Has anyone else experienced this sort of issue? I know I did a horrible job describing but perhaps this will get us headed in some sort of direction. . . Thanks! Joe shifting problemsI just started putting a lot of miles on my 66 Dream this spring and summer. I found that if I wore sneakers I had the same problem you are describing. I started wearing my hard toed motorcycle boots and made sure that I shifted firmly and the problems disappeared.
Like Tango said, it's also important to shift down through the gears when coming to a stop.
Dont mean to derail the OP's thread but I wondered when your down shifting to come to a stop if if you guys downshift into first gear?...or down shift into second and then pull the clutch and use the brake to stop and then click it into first when you're ready to start moving again? Just curious, thanks
downshiftingdownshift into neutral before coming to a full stop, let out clutch while stopped, then pull in clutch and go down to first when ready to take off...that's what works best on my cb...

Shifting..My 305 scrambler likes to be shifted into neutral while the bike is moving as i come to a stop light or sign. It is easier to find neutral that way. Once stopped I have a heck of a time finding neutral with the engine running and i dont like leaving it in gear, clutch in for some of the long traffic lights locally so I am always after neutral prior to stopping. Funny thing is if I shut the engine off I can immediately find neutral but engine running at a stop it is really difficult!
