So a local guy is wanting to sell me his '67 CB77. It definitely has some issues but he was saying he would sell it to me for $700 "for sure". Sounds like I could talk him down to $600. Engine turns over, looks pretty complete. The two biggest issues I noticed were that the kick start turned the engine over by kicking aft. Aren't they supposed to kick forward? Another issue I noticed is that the shift shaft has the rear set welded onto it. So that kinda sucks. Fenders are in rough shape. Mufflers aren't stock. Seat needs recovering and there's probably more issues too. I'll see if I can get some pics on here. Any thoughts? What should I look out for?
Thanks, Jethro
Might buy this one.
I checked the engine serial number when I noticed it kicked aft. Two carbs. It had the engine cover on the top of the case. I'm sure it has a CB engine, the serial number said CB77 but that kickstarter is weird though for sure. I'm pretty sure it's a high time engine. Odometer said 16,XXX miles. Should my offer be less than $600 you think?
I would give this one to Davo. Just the different side cover and as you state the engine case # is CB77.
The bike looks to be fairly complete minus the chain guard but there will be more than meets the eye. I thought my CB77 was decent when I got it and am in almost 400 over the purchase price and haven't even gone through it yet. When you start buying tires, exhaust, small parts etc. you will be way over what was initially planned, but the good thing is these bikes are worth something when you are done.
I would try offering 500.
