Rocker Arm Pin Tool

Post by Dr. Frankenstein » Tue Sep 20, 2011 7:39 am

Does anybody have a tool description or part number of the tool used to remove and install the rocker arm pins on a 305 engine, and where to get it??

Or is there a way to fashion a home-made one? I really do not want to strip out the slots in them by using a big screwdriver...
Thanks!

John

I just use an M6 bolt, a large washer and a socket. Just screw the bolt through a large socket that will clear the rocker shaft, into the thread in the rocker shaft and it will pull straight out.

I use a long punch.
Look at the end of the pin near the sprocket.
Place the punch on the end and knock it out.
Then ya use the punch in the cutout to pop the pin out.
Quick and simple and won't damage anything. .............lm

Thanks guys; I'll give those a shot..

So if it just knocks right out, why is it slotted?

I adapted a M6 bolt to a small slide hammer to pulled them out. The slot is for turning it to line up the cutouts to the stud holes.

Ya will find 2 cutouts which when aligned properly allow the studs to pass through.
The slot is to align the part at 90 degrees.
While others are pulling one I will have all 4 out. .........lm

Valid point, but not every home mechanic will have the right long punch (or a slide hammer for that matter.) It's always good to have workable options.
