Hi Jerry. I am in Santa Rosa, CA. Have you talked to the guys at Charlies Place there in SF? They are very knowledgable and do great work! Welcome to the forum!

Yes, I know Charlie well and he's the guy I've spoken to re this bike. I'm taking it to him after the holidays to get this thing looked at, and also to probably install a new clutch. If he can't get it running right no one can.

Jerry,

I'm in San Anselmo. E-mail or PM me. As Ed stated, how to time the bike with dual points and single timing marks on rotor? Ed, any suggestions on what rotor can be used?

Any with CB72 or CB72(L).
I'm still curious of the carb system as I haven't seen a clear pic. ............lm

Thanks Ed! I wasn't sure about that, as the stator itself is different. Jerry, I have a pile of rotors if you need one. I too would like to see pics of the head, and also like confirmation that the pistons rise and fall 180 degrees apart.

The timing point is the same for the engines however the DREAM issue does have shorter wires and screws rather than the parts for the 3 cover screws.
Take a good look at the points cam.
Tis for a 180 engine.
From what I can see of the LS frame pic it has a single carb. (I can see the LS coil wire holder of a DREAM engine)
Also the pic of the RS of the head does show a single carb. ????????????????????????. .............lm

Hi Davo, saw your note in the forum-I actually got your name already from your friend Dustin when I was on the 49 mi ride with my CB750 a few weeks ago. He said you were great with these old beasts but Marin is farther to get to than Charlie's since I'm down the Peninsula.

Last night I tried timing it but couldn't get it anywhere close, at least with my semi-limited knowledge. I connected my meter to the right points, tried to see if they opened at the F mark but they were nowhere near that. I'm wondering if they used the wrong plate set? Is it the same as a later 350 and if they did so, would that account for the timing to be way off? Funny thing is, it starts and runs strong-I'm taking it out later this am to try and free up the clutch. I know from auto experience that usually they'll start easily with the timing retarded, so that could be where I am.

Maybe not visible in the photos, but the stator says C72 on it and there is only one set of marks. Would the correct one have another set for a CB, or would you use the T mark? I'll add a few more shots to the Flickr site.

Also to clarify: One single carb as in a regular CA head, definitely 180 crank, two separate coils-I'll post photo.

Again, thanks to you guys for your input, each little bit helps with the puzzle. If nothing else, it gets the thought processes going a bit.
