Primary chain wear

Post by flyin_ » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:52 pm

I'm hoping one of the experts here can take a look at this photo and let me know if they think my primary chain looks ok. I think the chain adjuster looks like it is pushing the chain in quite a ways. Is there a more scientific way to gauge the chain wear other than by up/down play between the sprockets?

Thanks

Ryan

There is a procedure in the manual to check for wear. Based on the discussions I had last year on this subject, first, finding a replacement is next to impossible. Of all the methods tried to measure primary chain wear, the factory method is the best.

The "chain adjuster" in the engine is more of a "slack taker upper".

From what I gathered, if you chain is not rubbing on anything, you might as well use it because you won't find a stock replacement. Nobody even makes the raw chain.

There are mod kits developed by racers. There are posts here about primary chain upgrades and conversions.

regards,
Rob
