my other BIGGER dilemnas

Post by rickytile » Thu Jan 05, 2012 4:42 pm

1. when i put the bike in second gear, i hear a scraping clacky sound and vibration coming out the right side of the case ( i feel it on my right foot). if i accelarate hard this does not happen. what is the problem here?

2. i will be going at speed when i go into full acceleration for example in third gear and the rpms will climb but im not feeling the bike accelerating. (cluthch slip maybe? i dont know)

3. THE WORST!! the other day and slowly progresssed in speed so as not to cause issue 2 and at around 92 ( i had gps speedo). the bike locked up. until what i estimate was 50. the engine came back to life and i sailed home (2 miles). the next day, the right cylinder did not work nor does it work now. i did put a big-bore kit (357ish) 3mm over-bore on the bike when i was rebuilding it. what do you think happened and what should i do?

1. Sounds a bit like you have a problem with wear on the kickstart shaft which supports one of the gearbox shafts through a crowded roller bearing. If the shaft or bearings wear you get drag on the kickstart shaft as the bike accelerates.

2. sounds like clutch slip.

3. sounds like one of your cylinders seized. How did you free it up at 50? Just let the clutch back in? How long since the rebuild?

i never pressed the clutch down.

i was focusing on keeping the bike level as the rear tire slid. i figure that the pressure against the crank eventually unseized the piston and hence the bike came back to life. the question really is what kind of damage am i looking at if the piston did seize (which it prob did) and what may have cause it.

With the noises ya hear/feel and the lock up I'd say ya need to do a complete tear down and then ya will know what's up. .......lm

rebuild

ok,
since 650 miles ago i completely rebuilt this enigne. including new valves. cam chain, tensioner. clutch basket, points.

what else should i replace, no matter what, when i rebuild this thing again? what are the critical points that i should check?

As this is such a simple design and all parts must work together I think ya will see all the problems in there when ya tear it completely apart.
Complete rebuild?
Did ya split the cases or just a top end?
Look at the kick shaft at the roller bearings area for grooving?
Ya should be able to visually find the/any piston problems. .......lm

`the whole engine was rebuilt. i think my mistake was the 350 kit. i just dont understand why it would sieze. maybe it expanded due to heat? it wasnt running lean. gas/oil mixture would come out of the spark plug area. also i had some syth oil in there so the bike should have held up to heat better.
