Why do they break?

Why is it that the side covers crack from the strain of the kicker?
Missing side cover screws? Improper assembly/alignment marks not lined up? Or just poor design?

Just curiouse.

So given all mounting screws are installed, the cover and all of it's components are assembled correctly, and the rider isn't too hard on the kicker, they shouln't crack?

a) it's aluminum
b) it's 40+ year old aluminum

With the key turned to "ON" push the button at the right side lever. .......lm
