original seat color?
Seat colorsMy '64 parts manual shows the early dual seat ( PN CY724926 and 77200-259-810) in six colors: Red, Scarlet, Blue, Light Blue, Black and Yellow. My '66 parts manual also shows the dual seat in White. The part number shows a suffix for each of the colors. Anyone ever seen a light blue or yellow original seat?
There are discrepancies among the '64, '66, '68 and '73 parts manuals, but some time between the end of '62 production and the beginning of '64 production, Honda changed to the late seat (PN CIIIA724926 and 77200-272-010 and again with suffixes for each color). The '66 manual shows Scarlet, Black, Blue and White only. '68 Manual does not show white, but does show Black, Blue, Red and Scarlet. '73 Parts manual shows the same numbers and application as the '66 manual. In none of the manuals is there any indication that a certain color seat had application for a certain color of bike. I think I saw a post somewhere that the dealers would change the seats and put them on different bikes when they wer assembled out of the crate. I don't see anyting in the parts manuals to indicate there was a wrong way to do it, except the early/late distinction. Even then, the manuals contradict each other on when the change took place. It is interesting, however that the '66 and '73 manuals show the same frame number breaks for early/late seats as I have seen reflected for other parts replaced in the change from CA77 to CA78. That is, the seat may well be another part that was changed as part of the model change. Anyone have any thoughts on that? The old Honda dealer that I work with here in Cleveland told me that all the blue Dreams were shipped with red seats. They sold better with black seats though, so the dealers changed many of them to black. Could be that was just the case for his dealership, or this part of the country or something, but he was pretty sure that's the way it was, and he was there!
