Handle bar turn signals?

Post by Kigsby » Fri Feb 03, 2012 11:43 am

I don't like the idea of drilling holes in the bike and since my bike didn't come with turn signals (1962), for safety reasons, I'd like to add some. Rather than put them on the forks or headlight cover, I've seen some that go on the ends of the hand grips. Anyone done that?

Hi Kigsby

Never done that but I think that Early BMWs may have had winkers similar to your second pic.

You will still have to drill holes in the handlebars to get the power in and out.

Can you send links for the two you have found as they look good...

I didn't think I would have to drill holes in the handlebars, maybe just the rubber grips on the end. My handlebars already have holes drilled in for the throttle cable.

Hi Kigsby

Thanks for the link. I think you will need a switch, somewhere on the handlebar and you will need to get either a power cable to the switch or from the switch to the winkers.

I'm still looking for just the right switch. I was just wondering if anyone had used these and if they liked them or had any problems with them.

I am doing handlebar mounted bullets (amber in the front of course and red in the rear.) I bought some bullets that were already mounted to a metal bar, that you mount behind your license plate (ebay). I found a cheap (quality and inexpensive) universal switch. I had the same switch on my CA95 and it worked out great for my application. Notice the clamp at the bottom of the page. They are perfect to mount my turn signals to my handlebars. I didn't want to alter my bike permanently either. I haven't installed mine yet, but its going to start raining here next week, so it seems that it will be a good time to get started.

Here's some pictures of what I decided to go with.

That's so funny! I really like yours and went back to look at the ones I originally bought, and I have the same exact ones! But I don't have the handlebar clamps. And I just realized that I have all red. I guess its illegal to use red in the front??? I just saw those end bar ones and thought they were really different. I don't know if I should just get the clamps or try the bar end ones in the front. Oh, decisions, decisions!
