Colder plugs in CB77 - D10?

Did you put a wire through the jets or just blow them out? Varnish can build up in the hole, you see thru it fine and squirt carb cleaner thru the hole but the jet will still be undersized. I like to use a copper strand pulled from a piece of automotive wire. Poke the wire thru the jet and hold both ends while you turn the jet to remove the varnish without oversizing the hole. Tip cleaners for acetelyne torches work well too if used with care.

This is a funny thread. I run D12 - yes you read that right - in a CB77 and they are getting old and D10's in the Cb160 but I should point out that we use race gas in our race bikes and they are highly modified.

The 160 will actually run better with D8s if we run it on street unleaded and that's at the race track.

But we don't change plugs to correct a lean mixture, we fix the leaks or change to larger jets or maybe just to clean new jets.

Lean mixtures and cold plugs used to be a common way to set up motors (badly) and is not the way to best power or reliability. Read the plugs and if they show signs of overheating, back the ignition down slightly and then jet it correctly.

Lean mixture can raise plug temperatures dramatically and so will too much advance. I'd focus on getting the set up spot on first and then it will probably run best on D8s under normal riding conditions.
