honda Ca77 luggage rack

Post by carolzic » Tue May 29, 2012 10:21 am

Several years ago I aquired a solo seat from an early Japanese Honda motorcycle. The seat fits my 1964 CA 77 but I want to know if there is a luggage rack available that can be used for that bike in conjunction with a solo seat to complete a vintage look. I have seen luggage racks for the Ct's that look like they may work. anybody know? thanks, Carol

Luggage Rack

Post by conbs » Wed May 30, 2012 12:22 pm

There are probably a number of luggage racks that can be made to work.

I am pretty sure I saw a post on this site where a Honda 50 luggage rack was used with a solo seat. A little fabrication was involved, but it was small and looked right at home with the solo seat n my opinion.

I know that this isn't the type of rack you are talking about but I do have this type.

Thanks for the picture. It's a great option for a bench seat. Appreciate the input. Carol

Looks cool. But I'm afraid to install something like that given the propensity for these rear fenders to crack even without that kind of load on them.

cracked rear fenders

Post by conbs » Sun Jun 03, 2012 5:34 pm

Without being 100% sure, it would seem to me that rear Dream fenders crack because of harmonics from vibrations (motor, trnasmission, road, etc). If that is correct, hanging a luggage rack on the rear fender might actually dampen the vibrations/harmonics and avoid the cracking. Anyone have real-world experience that proves or disproves that notion?
