help! clutch

Post by thejuan01 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 5:05 am

good day to all. i am currently replacing the clutch lining of my cb72 and found out that it only has 5pcs clutch lining and 6pcs clutch disks. On the exploded diagram it has 6pcs lining and 6pcs disks. Now my question is that when i place 6pcs lining, the 6th lining could'nt fit on the clutch housing (outer). So is there a model with just 5pcs clutch lining an 6pcs clutch disks?

is it possible there a model with just 5 clutch disks and 5 friction plates?
the order of the disks and friction plates when i opened it was

disk (first), friction, disk, friction, disk, friction, disk, friction, disk, friction, disk(last).

took photos of the clutch basket and everything with the new friction plates and clutch disks installed. it doesnt seem to be right since the basket seems to be short.

These clutches have frequently been apart before we get to them, so how they're set up can confuse you. Yours was definitely set up wrong.

There are a couple of setups, but they all use the same length housing. Here is the most common;

The first disc to go in is supposed to be thicker than the others, but sometimes 2 of the thinner discs are used back to back. Most have 5 friction plates and 4 of the thinner discs. You should end up with a friction plate running against the outside cover.

If your still confused do a search, there are a couple of threads that discuss the different clutch setups.

thanks for the reply OldStan. been playing around with different setups whether to use 5 friction plates and 6 disks or 6 frictions plates with 5 disks.

could it be right if i put first a friction plate then after the disks? or should it be disk first?

Thick steel and 4 thin steel.
5 friction disc is what you need.
No more. .........lm
