Frame number

Kellie, the story on your bike seems to be getting better and better. When Graham and Jensen both take an interest in a bike, it is probably something very unique.

Did you check up on the steering head for the frame number? Just a thought. No matter where it is, you should be able to see it, even with a bunch of paint over it.

Anyone ever found a frame number on a Honda in some place other than the two "normal" locations?

WOW Okay..... well at least we know the TANK is an import LOL! Im still looking for the ever eluding frame #. I think I may need to reconsider my intial plans for this bike. I love it when we find interesting information on the bike. I would feel weird taking that decal off. I sort of like it! I like that it adds to the story. :) You guys are awesome! Now, with this new information I have to ask myself, restore and get a reproduced decal, or tape it up before painting and preserve it! I did that with my 305 dream. I restored everything, and left the speedo, (that had a decent chrome ring on it) original. Everyone who comes in contact with my bike asks about that. I tell them.... she's got some miles on her, but she cleans up real nice! I know, Im weird, but I like to leave SOMETHING untouched. Maybe on this bike it will be that decal! Another thing I have noticed is that all my other ignition switches have had a letter before the numbers stamped on them. This ignition is 6 position, and the only stamp marks are 1212. Is that normal? Im concerned because the previous owner broke the key off in the switch. So I will try like heck to get it out, but if I don't I will be looking for a 6 position replacement. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again!

Removing broken key

Kellie, When you go to remove that key, squirt some penetrating oil down around the key. Then make sure that the key is turned to line up with either of the black dots (second from left or last on the right) where the key can be removed. You should be able to get a pick in under the key and remove it.

I bought a used switch with a key broke off in it. The red and black dots were gone on the face and I wasn't paying attention. I turned it all the way left (thinking that was "off") and tugged and tugged on that key stub. I was stumped at why it was so hard to get out when suddenly I realized what I was doing. One click to the right and the key popped right out.

Hope that helps you get the key out. You may be able to use the stub to have a new key hand made if you can't find one. No letters in front of the numbers?

My 1962 Dream has no letter before the numbers, either. Still looking for keys.....

Did the person who gave you the bike know any of the history? It would be good to find out the real journey it has made in its lifetime.

You know, I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet. I was told from another neighbor of mine that the gentleman worked for our local Cycle Salvage years ago. I will make my way to his house sometime today and see if remembers anything about the bike. I will let you guys know if I come up with anything. I will also give it a whirl with removing the broken key. Thanks you guys and I hope your having a great weekend/week.

Hi,

If I may have a few suggestions :

Don't take anything off the bike before taking pictures, much pictures.
And don't try to take the transfer off, a good painter can work around it.

And a picture of an early dream headlight with the pilot light.
