New Superhawk and official introduction
I have two books that came with the bike, a "Honda Genuine Service Information - 250-305cc Engine Repair Guide" and "Honda Genuine Service Information - Restoration Reference Guide".
I've started reading the restoration guide first, to get a general idea of how the independent systems work together. That link with the parts diagrams helps a lot. Thanks!
About your question on the chain guard: your guard is original. There is no bottom half. The CA77 Dream had an enclosed drive chain, the Superhawk and Scrambler did not.
It seems most front fenders get cut off sometime during the bike's past life. It is possible to find complete front fenders if you want one. You're going to replace the original mufflers? Thanks. After looking closely at the photos in the manual, I noticed that there wasn't supposed to be a lower chain guard.
Is the chain gaurd just for the benefit of the rider? Or does it some how effect the mechanics? Any original parts I remove, like the mufflers, rear fender, handle bars, seat, and tail light will all be available to those who are interested. I have no intentions of doing a concourse level restoration. I'm more interested in a bare-bones naked bike. I am looking for the right side bracket that holds the rear brake pedal and muffler. Mine is broken.
It's just there for the rider(s). It doesn't affect the bike mechanically.
You should be able to find a footpeg perch on eBay pretty easily. I've seen several on there. Also, there are members here who have parts, and may have a footpeg perch. The first person I'd ask would be Loud Mouse. He has quite a collection! I'm looking for a right hand muffler, and would be interested in yours if it's in decent shape. I thought the muffler was only held on by that point on the foot perch, but I now realize that's not true. Since I may end up using aftermarket rear sets, I'll hold off on trying to find a new perch since it might get discarded anyways.
Can anyone tell me if the rear shocks on the bike are aftermarket? or did the previous owner just remove the spring covers?
Jeremy, the mufflers have three mounting points. One of them is on the footpeg perch.
It's hard to tell for sure from your photos if the shocks are OEM with the shrouds removed, but I'd lean towards them being replacements. The OEM shocks have a lower metal shroud over the spring as well as an upper plastic shroud. If you go to the "Restoration" forum, you'll find lots and lots of threads with photos. You can make all sorts of comparisons by looking at those. I've spent hours and hours on that forum just reading the restoration logs and looking at the pictures!
