any one interested in respoking wheel for extra money?

Post by linemup » Tue Oct 30, 2012 8:00 pm

i just bought a 65 front wheel for my 61 honda dream............thinking/ hoping they were the same. it seems the 65 wheel does not accept my brake hub off of the 61. No....new wheel did not come with 65 hub. Also, the cap with 3 screws on other side isdn't the same either........................so.............looking for someone to transfer middle of old wheel over the new wheel and spokes.....................other wise i just crapped away 145 buck.......nice wheel though..............lol

I think you are a little mixed up on terminology. The hub is the wheel hub and is the "spool" or brake drum, depending on the wheel assembly , into which the spokes are inserted and then are run up and thru the rim.

I believe what you are saying is you bought a front wheel assembly that did not come with the brake backing plate, which is the plate onto which your brake shoes are attached. Your brake plate assembly will not fit into the hub of the wheel assembly you bought.

I'm not familiar with the variations on wheels for the Dream, but if the 61 hub was a smaller diameter than the 65, the rims are not interchangable. The holes in the rims for the spoke nipples will be drilled at different angles. Although it is possible that there is enough tolerance that my statement is not correct. But normally, a rim is drilled to mate with the hub.

So, you cannot strip the rim off the 65 and put it on the 61 hub if they are different diameters.

Always better to ask before you buy or if you have access to the manuals, look up the parts to see if they are the same before you buy. Both would be even better.

regards,
Rob

Yes, I have no idea if the two will interchange but if so the swap isn't the hard part. You simply follow the pattern of the rear wheel.

The hard part is trueing it up. For that I would take it to a local cycle shop for them to do.

I did ask.........which was the reasoning behind this post. I did recieve some advice and help from a few people that were generally interesting in whether it would work or not. Thanks for the terminology lesson..................no biggy................I will make it work or resale. I have the feeling it will work.
