1964 Honda CA77 new purchase

Post by Mark13018 » Thu Dec 13, 2012 7:57 am

Hello,
I didn't see a member introduction area so I'll just post it here. I buy quite a few bikes every year for the last 4-5 or so and have been watching for a dream for awhile and I finally got one. Picked it up for 550.00 yesterday from a kid who got it from his grandfather. He bought it from the original owner in 68 and got injured on a separate mc accident and lost interest in the bike so it was titled and plated for 69 but not ridden much. It only has 1884 miles on it with buco hard bags, original tool kit and owners manual. But the exhaust is shot and it was missing the battery (left) side cover. Sorry for the crappy pic it was dark last night when I took the picture. I will post this also in the parts wanted section. Thanks!

^ that's what I said. Unbelievably low miles. It was stored somewhat properly too and the tank is nice on the inside and the engine still kicks over nicely. I have not checked actual compression numbers yet or the carb and carb bowl to see if those were stored properly. Hopefully so.

Really nice and for a great price all things considered. You shouldn't have any problem finding a battery cover but the exhaust is another story.

One with that low of miles should get original ones but they are very hard and expensive when you can find them.

The Buco bags are pretty popular and sought after by many.

When I got mine it had the same front tire and I sure wish someone would reproduce them. If you put new tires on it make sure to save the tires as they are sought after by the guys who are going to restore their bike and let it sit.

That does look like the original Nitto on the front. Ihave a set of Nitto's in the attic. I should sell them on ebay, I'll never use them. They do have decent tread on them and are not all weather checked.

Update

I got the beast running and its pretty nice... Not as nice of a ride as I was expecting but I think my hopes were too high for a bike that's 49 years old... I cleaned it up and rebuilt the petcock and carb because all the rubber was horrible and cork was also.. The bike is still pretty nice for its age and I really really hate putting tires on but I managed to get the old ones off, the new firestones on, cleaned the white walls, and took it for a spin. All in under 2 hours. ;) . Here is a new pic. Enjoy!!
