Bubbacat, we all like to help each other here, so you're most welcome! Your VINs have been entered into the DB and, let me tell you, every VIN enables us to piece together the '65 to '67/8 melée where model-year changes were not documented. Your info has helped me in narrowing down each year's VIN range.

Please keep us informed of your project's progress.

Keep smilin'!

Update with DMV

Post by Bubbacat » Mon Jan 21, 2013 6:50 pm

Good news for me, I just got the "Transferable" registrations from DMV! It only took 3 runs to DMV and just about 3 months of waiting for them to show up in the mail. So now when i get the bikes in a rideable condition, whenever that maybe, i am good to go. Also i can now "legally" sell the frames or bikes if i choose.

This is what I needed for New York State DMV,

A bill of sale, DTF-802, MV-51, MV-51b, A Vin verification letter from Police Dept, Vin tracings on tracing paper, MV-82, Proof of Insurance Card, and Money for the cost of registering.

Also had to show my current drivers license. Each bike/frame has to be seperate paperwork, can't just make out a list and make copies, so i had a stack of forms and papers for each one. They also have to be originals. So i had to get the seller to sign all original forms and not make a mistake on any of them.

This is based on my experience, this maybe different at other DMV locations, I went in 3 different times and got different answers each time. All the people were nice and helpful to the best that they knew, no complaints at all with the staff, it is with the system. i think you have to have the patience of Saint to deal with any DMV.

DMV only issues a "Transferable" registraion for 1972 year and older, they do not give you a new "Title", which is fine by me because that saved me $50.00 bucks EACH! for the title. That is 50 bucks is on top of the Registration fees, thats 300.00 bucks i saved. Crazy.

I just wanted to give an update on the 1st step in my restore project, getting them legal.
