Hi, new member here. Regrettably my older brother recently passed away and I have acquired his early Honda's. The '62 CB77 my father bought new in Fukaoka, Japan in late '61 and shipped home. It replaced his earlier CA72 which he believes he traded in for the Hawk, I was there at the dealership (10 yrs. old) but only remember the cold green tea and the fact that no one there spoke the others language. Just last night I took the Hawk down to my fathers house as he needs a project and we're going to clean it up and get it back on the road, he was so excited to see it again, like a kid with his first bike. It is a stock bike except for the mufflers, seat cover and missing rear mud flap and perhaps the exposed spring rear shocks. To bad it needs paint and some chrome redo.
The CB77 racer ran in the late '60's but my brother eventually replaced it with Kawi H1R triple which he ran for a few years before being replaced with Yam TZ250. The little CB racer has all the period mods but is missing the fairing, no idea where it got off to.
The CR450 is one of the 3 built for Bob Hansen to compete in the '67 Daytona race and was the bike crashed by Jimmy Odom but I guess that one's a whole nother story.
I have a lot of reading to do before I can ask any questions but this looks like a great forum and with some help I should be able to get our Super Hawk back on the road looking like new. ...Mark

Sounds like you have a nice stable. Show us what you have before you tear it down and make it all shiney new.

Hi Goody, I was born in Douglas, MI don't envy you the weather. Will get pix of bikes and figure out how to post them before I do any disassembly. The Hawk has never been down or apart, although at some point the front fender took a knock on it's leading edge. The black paint could almost be left alone, I don't mind the patina of a vintage original, however, the cloud silver is gone on the fenders and side covers.

Davo, how funny, my biking buddy Dabo lives just up the road from you in Sonoma, real name is Dave but since my daughter was little he's always been Dabo. Will try & get pix before any work is done. My dad is months away from 97 and having some heart issues so hope to be able to get on this sooner than later, says he wants to ride it but I think he was joking...maybe. Mark

welcome mark, you find lots of help on here, your story is very similar read about 4 pages down, (Early CB72), mine too came from japan late 61, service man stationed in OKINAWA,by the name of cliford tuttle, which i have made contact with, wonder if your dad knows him,will be very interested to see the pics of the bike.

Hi Alan, we were USAF stationed at Itazuke Air Base from 1959-61, base housing was actually on the WW11 Japanese sea plane base, Hakata, where during the war, captured US airmen were used as slave labor to dig coal.

I have pix of both dad's Dream's and Hawk on the beach road behind the house, pretty cool and a great place for a kid to grow up. I'm glad he kept the Hawk but wish he had kept his AJS 500 and Triumph T110, oh well.

Hi Mark, that place must have been fantastic as a young child, japan is one place i would like to vist, there most have been some interesting bikes about at that time, love to see the pics, when you get round to it, the one i got back, it had been sat since about 1965, well that was the last title for it. it had a few bits missing, but it had a lot of 61 parts on it, which made it worth buying in the us and shipping to the uk, i have only really done a good clean on it , put some low bars on it etc.and got a uk reg for it.
also like the british bikes i have.
