CA77 Right Crank Case Cover

Post by paperslammer » Tue Mar 05, 2013 3:31 pm

Hey guys -

I have a 1964 Dream and I am looking to replace the right crank case cover. Does anyone know the part number? I've found:

11330-259-020
11330-259-040.

Maybe -020 is for 1961?

Thanks for any help!

I may be wrong but I believe the difference is where the clutch cable enters the case. Early ones (including 64) come in from the back on roughly a 45° angle and the newer ones come in through the top at a 90° angle. Mine is a late 64 and I had the cable coming in from the side cover at the 45° and into the case. Hope this helps.

Right Side Case

In 1964 Honda was still using the old part numbering system. My '66 parts book shows 3 different right covers.

C721111A CA77E-110001 to CA77E-312950 (I think the first number should be CA77E - A10001 which was first production in 1960).
C721111B CA77E-100001 to CA77E-109000 and CA77E-312951 to CA77E 1003391.
C721111D CA77E-1003392 forward.

The "A" cover is the early cover that uses the long clutch cable that loops in from behind, but does not have the rubber plug/hole in the top of the case.

I am convinced based on a bunch of photos I have of '63 CA77/78's that the change from the "A" cover to the "B" cover (020) occurred in the change over from CA77 to CA78 when the rubber plug and hole were added. This cover still uses the long clutch cable. This is another example of the Honda literature not matching reality in the change over to the CA78 model.

The change to the "D" cover (040) coincided with the change to the shorter clutch cable that comes in from the top.

For anything prior to CA78 1003392 you should be fine using any cover where the clutch cable come in from the back. Or, I think you could use any cover as long as you use the corresponding clutch cable and the few other parts that go with each cable.

I hope this helps.

you are talking about "late" or "early". early loops thru the side cover. late drops directly into the case. which do you need? I have both. and why do you need it? also, fwiw, these cases can be interchanged.
