Side Stand Not Quite Right?

Just installed my kickstand bracket/stand on my CB77, and the bracket is fitted snuggly and correctly, but the kickstand seems to come out at too wide an angle and when on the stand the bike seems like it's leaning a bit too much, putting too much weight on the stand. The bracket/stand don't appear to be bent at all, is this how the stand is supposed to lean? Has anyone ever had one fail on them? On the bright side, I can just stick a piece of 2x4 under it stand and it's perfect, haha.





If I had about 1-2" more on the end of the side stand, it would stand at a real healthy angle and not put so much weight on the stand bracket. Should I weld some extra on? I have a friend with a weld shop, would it be possible to perhaps weld some metal on without removing the stand again?

Angle doesn't look too bad. Looks like a used unit, so there may be wear at the pivot, and or it may be slightly bent.

Those tires are the wrong size for your kickstand!!
Cut a 4" square (from a 4x6), put it in gear when you park & leave the Avons.
If you added metal to the end of the kickstand it would look clunky & out of place on your very clean bike. (jmho- luckily my frame had no kickstand mounts or I would have had the same dilemna).

Thanks for the response guys. The pivot join definitely feels worn, there is some play, but that bolt is incredibly tight, I wasn't able to loosen it with hand tools. I'm going to see about welding it a bit longer, even just making the foot 2" taller would not look much different (the kick stand hides under the exhaust when it's up anyways).

One nice thing about this stand is it makes it much easier to park on hills where the center stand makes it prone to falling over.

Bikedoctor, what do you mean by "Avons"?

I may be wrong, but your tires look like Avon Road Riders.
As you've discovered, the modern tires that will fit your rims have a taller profile & work better than the race tires of the day.
