ok, when you are looking at this pic---on the right hand side there is that long bolt that goes thru the cam and comes out and gets a nut on it. Just what is the purpose of that bolt? The only reason I ask is because when I try and tighten it, it spins on the head end of it---

The head of that bolt is tapered and it is located at the end of the camshaft. Tightening the nut wedges the splines on the cam out a few thousandths for a tight fit in the camshaft sprocket.
