Opening Right Side Casing

Post by paperslammer » Sat Jun 22, 2013 8:00 pm

Hey all -

I have been having trouble when trying to shift into second gear. It gets stuck sometimes and I have to mess around with in while riding. Little dangerous. The neutral light has been finicky before so I wanted to take the right side casing off to see what was going on

Do these things look normal?

Shifter spline looks good I think

Anything abnormal here? Gear looks like it's in good condition too.

What is this piece doing?

Is this the neutral switch?

Thanks for any help!

Mine tends to loose it's mind once in a while but only on downshifts, never upshifts. From what I see all looks good there. I'd say either ur clutch is not FULLY dis-engaging causing difficulties or your shift mechanism is not quite right internally.

Now that i think about it, I do believe it gets stuck when I'm down-shifting.

How would I fix the internal shift mechanism? Is that an engine teardown?

Also anyone have any idea what that crazy tab piece is? It looks like it's not supposed to be there.

And one more question - I've looked all over the site for this answer - where can I buy a grease gun with the correct fitting for this CA77?

Thanks!

If the problem is on downshifting, then that is a farily easy fix.

Just make sure when you are down shifting coming up to a stop sign, that the shifts are deliverate, make sure it makes the next down shift before trying another.

I know on most bikes you can just pull in the clutch and bang bang bang, downshift 3 gears as you coast up to the sign. Doesn't seem as though these 305 trannys like that too much. And even worse is trying to do it at a stop or rolling very slowly. Of course you don't want to be going too fast either as that just crashes the gears too hard.

You will get the hang of it and just make sure you take it slow but firm.

Don't know what the tab is. It's literally been 30 years since I had the cover off mine. Get online and look at a parts diagram, it might show.

As for grease gun, can't help you. I know I greased mine up some how long ago but I put so few miles and haven't done it since. I know you can buy those guns, or adapt modern zerks. I should look into that as well.

And yes, the mechanism is inside but I'm not so sure you could help it much. Try altering your technique first.
