Gives a descent idea of what's in the clutch area. (remember HONDA issued several different clutch designs) but useless when it comes to the trans gear makeup.
A PDF or something of the sort which shows the blow up of the trans and the number of teeth of each gear is available and you need to get that info for sure. ......lm

I am usually good with Clymer manuals. I just disassembled a 72 CL175 engine and rebuilt it a few weeks ago. I was told to get the Bill Silver book which I am guessing is "Motor Tuning, Repair and Maintenance Guide, 1961 - 1967"

You can split the cases with the top end assembled. You will have to remove the clutch and other assorted parts. Don't forget the 2 nuts on the top of the case. Take pictures. Might also be a good time to replace all the seals in the bottom end. Careful with the 17mm head kick start stop bolt. The mechanism inside needs to be in the correct spot or the bolt will hit it. If you need pointers I have a split case sitting on my bench right now.

back up and running. need to re-time the engine, but its alive again. shifts and seems fine so far. thanks for all the help along the way. The donor CL77 trans seems to have fixed my issue. I am still betting it was a shifting fork
