Gear Shift Shaft Mystery

I bought what was claimed to be a replacement gear shift shaft for my '67 CL77 a few months ago and finally got around to replacing the broken one yesterday - more correctly, tried to replace it! What I found is that the new shaft is correct in all regards except one - it's too long by .194 inch. The dimension between the shoulders on the shaft measure 4.074 inches vs. the 3.880 inch dimension for the old part. Does anyone know what bike the longer shaft is used in? The part is in as-new condition and would like to put it up for sale, but need to have an idea of where it's used. Anyone out there know?

24610-259-020 - early Dream 1960-
24610-259-030 - late Dream to end of production CL72 CL77 CB77

Im guessing your part is for a 1960-63 Dream (of which I have two) but not sure why they are different......

Thanks G. The longer shift shaft would need to mate-up with a correspondingly deeper left side engine cover. I know that quite a few of the Dream engine parts are different and this could be one of them.
