My 1966 305 Dream has not been running in 2 years. Fresh gas and it started right up. I took it up the street on a test run. It stumbled slightly in first gear and when I shifted to second and gave it some gas I heard a loud BANG and the bike died.
It turns over but won't start. The gears appear to shift O. K. My guess is that I blew the cam chain. Any guesses out there?

RB, if you suspect the cam chain, drain the oil and drop the oil pump and take a look up inside. You should be able to see up inside without dropping the motor and pulling the head cover to see if the chain is intact. If it is the chain, it just may drop out.
You can also pull the cam chain tensioner if you don't want to pull the oil pump and sneek a peek that way. If you can't see inside, stick you finger in there and you should be able to feel the chain. You will have your answer as to whether the cam chain is the culprit. Hard to say what it maybe without seeing it. Good luck.
