Changing oil

Post by SMBH » Wed Nov 27, 2013 2:14 pm

I have a 1964 CB77 eng No 102472 (only just had it) in the future should I clean the oil filter on every oil change as recomended, my reason for asking this is the side cover has to come off needing a new gasket every time or can one clean the filter without taking off the cover.

Later bikes had a bigger aperture under the filter cover to make maintenance easier. The later ones had an aperture almost as big as the cover itself.

You have to pull the cover off to check.

Thanks for the reply G-Man, so looks like one has to take the cover off every oil change. I better stock up on gaskets.

Change the oil every 1,000 miles and if you have just cleaned it now you can ride many miles
and not worry about cleaning it.
Since we no longer have LEAD ADDITIVE in the gas there is less contaminants that can cause the filter to need more frequent cleaning.
I expect some to have other ideas but that's what I think. .............lm
