Just purchased a (77)? dream , need to know where the V I N is and how to decode it.Bike has been sitting since last summer , what do I need to do FIRST to assure I don't damage anything when trying to get it running.Seems like it's fairly complete , but I don't know what may be missing. No air filter or cover. Any help is greatly appreciated , thanks...Jan

Welcome - I would start by educating yourself. Get the parts and shop manuals, google around for pictures, do some poking around on this forum using the search function on the left margin. The members here tend to be most helpful to those who help themselves. If you add your location to your profile, more will offer, maybe even come over. If there's fresh oil in the crankcase and the motor's not stuck, there's not a lot that can go wrong...

I have been poking around a little , have a couple savvy buddies to help. Really looking forward to this project , hope to have a somewhat safe, reliable scoot by spring !

Last but not least, the owners manual is the download with the up and down arrows.

Now all you need time and a big pile of money. Enjoy.
