1963 dream value
1963 dream valueHey guys, gona be selling my dream soon but have one problem, first things first this is a 99.9% complete minus carb covers dream with origional paint besides repainted tank and side covers, bike has 15000 miles last drove in 1970 its got a recovered seat fresh gaskets and nos standard rings, almost 100% rust free rims, new fishtale straight pipe exhast, but heres the problem no title, if I file for a custom motorcycle title will this hurt the value of the bike? And make selling difficult? And also how much should i ask for it?
Value of a DreamThe thing that will impact the value of your bike the most is having a title. If you cannot get one, all you really have is a bunch of parts.
It doesn't sound like a show bike so, I assume whomever buys it will want to ride it. That requires a title. You should stop everything else and proceed directly to your local DMV. Ask them to run a 50-state check of the frame number. If it shows up being reported stolen, they will come and take the bike from you (don't resist - you are in possession of a stolen vehicle). If its not on the list, they will have a process for getting a title. You aren't the first guy to come along with a motorcycle without a title. Do whatever they tell you and you should at least have a provisional title within a short time. Until then, don't bother trying to sell the bike unless you are willing to sell it really cheap. Selling a rider puts the value at whatever someone will pay for it. One gauge is "completed listings" on eBay. I haven't been watching as closely just lately but, I would guess you will see a high end around the $2,000 to $2,500 range for nice riders with some non-OEM parts like what you describe. To get that it probably has to be a very nice, "no-issues" bike that presents well. There will be difference depending on what part of the country you/your buyer are in. Like anything, it also makes a difference how quick you need to make the sale. On a positive note, selling in the spring should help spur demand a little. That' my $0.02. Hope it helps. Best wishes on your sale.
