Hi, I tried to figure this out from the shop manual and Bill's guide but couldn't. I was reassembling my 305 engine with two knock pins at the cylinder base. It seems like the cylinder doesn't want to seat over one side (right) with the pin in place.
Since I have a donor engine, I was thinking I mistakenly grabbed one from the other engine. It slides down fine without the pin on that side. Is that knock pin mandatory or can I leave that side out? Thanks

knock pins
just FYI, the knock pins are crucial. They not only locate the head BUT serve as seating sights for the two little rubber o-rings that seal these two critical oil passages,... i.e. oil from the bottom end to the rockers and cams. best of luck.
