Is there a way to determine if oil is being pumped?
Perhaps by removing the valve inspection caps and running the starter motor?

Search this site. I think I have read at least one post that suggested loosening the outside acorn nuts on top of the cylinder.
You may want to just pull the oil pump and inspect the insides. I got a refurbished one from LM for a very reasonable price.
