+ or - ground

Post by Woodsie » Fri Mar 06, 2015 8:09 pm

Is the CA78 positive or negative ground. The bike came with no battery and I purchased one and now that I sit it in there with the label facing out the + is on the left but the ground wire is on the left, what's up.

Negative ground. Positive should be on right side terminal facing you.

The ground wire on the left side must go to the negative (-) battery terminal. If the negative terminal on the battery is on the right, then you have the wrong battery. Maybe post a pic and we can help you get the right battery. There are two types, early and late, differing by shape. Both have the negative terminal on the left.

Thanks guys. I turned the battery around. I hit "choose file" and selected a photo of the battery. When I hit "add attachment" it sends me to never land. Anyway, I hooked it up, turned the key on and had lights, yeehaa, turned it back to the first position and pushed the starter button and it turned over strong. Didn't fire up but it's a big step forward. Hopefully the photo appears. It says the file is too big so no photo. Battery is XT9-B

The right battery is a 12N9-3A. Looks like the XT9-B is the same size but with opposite terminals. The 12N9-3A is negative left with the vent on the left side too.

I obviously bought the wrong battery. I didn't notice the terminals being opposite sides so that is my bad and I'll use it while I'm working on it. I tried to post a picture that I took with my ipad but it said the file was too large so I have to figure out how to reduce the file size. The size and appearance of this thread appears to be messed up.

You can open the pic in Paint and re-size easily, or there are various other ways as well.
