Had a similar problem with my CB77 years ago. Probably a 12N9-3B battery or something. Physically the same size.
What I did was change the coil connections around as the wrong polarity reduces the spark output. Also had to change the rectifire connections to get them right. Sorry can't remember the wiring colours. Anyway the bike ran fine untill the battery expired and replaced with the correct one.
